As usual…. to see better “click” on the photos!
News trends for our houses are like fashion. Some dresses you see on runways are beautiful but aren’t right for your ordinary life. They are too strange, not very easy and too expensive … the same is for trends in furniture, colors, fabrics and materials. An acid green sofa of 7.000,00 Euros is not for everybody! You can make something crazy with fashion, but in your house this can cost too much. So let’s start working! There is a very big offer! You have to choose the right mix among news, design, materials and colors, the mix that is good for your house, your budget and your life. Main trends:
A new mix of black and white

It works with any pattern: with Glencheck, with stripes or in polka-dots. It is even nicer when materials change and there is a mix of rough, velvet and shiny. This is a very classical trend that is also minimal and always right. It’s quite difficult to believe, but black and white were considered no colors. They are the main colors on the contrary and right their contrast create suspense, expect and excitement. It is a very clear statement and lets space to a new dimension of elegance and minimal. It is not necessary to change everything to follow this trend. It’s enough its soft version and for example you can only decorate a wall with a black and white wallpaper. This little change fits any furniture and can make miracles. For people who think this is already too much, it’s easy to play with accessories as cushions, vases and similar…these objects can give a touch of freshness without a real transformation. This trend has a really fantastic quality: you can have so many patterns and keeping only these two colors. People who think it’s a too strong contrast, can mix grey or rosé to obtain elegance, or strong colors like red, pink and orange to obtain a pop-art atmosphere. It’s very interesting the possibility to have strange combinations as a modern sofa together with a Bergère armchair. Something you should know is that Josef Hoffmann designed the sofa “Alleegasse” in 1912 and this sofa has been produced till today by the Company Wittmann using a white-black fabric of polyester.
The 50ies in their glory

Not as retrò decoration for your rooms, but as a modern homage to these years of rebuilding after war. It’s maybe what everybody needs to believe right now as well: a rebirth of our economies. If we see that this has been possible once, we can live it in our houses creating the same atmosphere. What a beautiful period! Everything was to create, Elvis moved his pelvis, any girl wore skirts with petticoat. The furniture reflected this awareness. Nice and well-shaped body, some dark wood with soft colors, the colors of the sorbets. Many companies, it doesn’t matter if they are big or small, are looking their inspiration in those golden years and present a retrò style that it’s really up-to-date. You needs some sensibility with this trend because it’s completely a mix. If you don’t want to obtain a movie set, you have to break some style rules. The basis should be very neutral. White or elegant petrol or light violet walls are the perfect background. It would be nice to add some fifties furniture or vintage things to put together with one color carpets with defined lines and other furniture with linear shape. Furniture and objects from the 50ties need space to get the value they deserve. A Georg Nelson watch should be fixed on a simple wall and not on a wall covered with pattern wallpaper. It would be a pity if it had to fight with the wallpaper! Many decorations belonging to these years are in production right now. They are perfect on a walnut or teak cupboard. The bar corner at home is coming back as well. It brings with it all its equipment: cocktail glasses, ice box and shaker (Ralph Lauren home). The colors from the fifties are more adult today. They don’t look like the colors of the ice-cream at the sea any more. They are easier and darker like mauve, petrol or blackberry color. It doesn’t matter if it’s a table shaped like kidney, or soft arm supports, or cupboards with thin acute legs, the only thing that is important is that there are no corners.
The rough style

Natural, authentic and with an elegant touch: this is the simple style! Soft colors are the main character, those colors that seem to be whitened by sun. They are in natural materials like leather, metal, wool and wood. These materials, when used all together, can create a very natural design mix and full of suspense contrasts. Everything works better if furniture seems to be bought in different years. The nice quality is that natural material don’t hide their real substance. Wood is not treated, leather is maybe old, linen is rough and they are perfect exactly because of their imperfection. Furniture can have corners in this case but it can’t be polished. The range of colors is smaller: grey, dove-grey, cream, beige and colors from the earth. These colors can create elegance. The patterns are passé and with high quality materials. To avoid a sad result you have to add some opaque iron or modern art. Sofas have big housse in linen that reach the floor creating a generous and casual setting. The combination with little tables and stools made with not treated trunks and carpets that look old make everything warmer and give a sort of frame to the whole. We have poufs and plaid that seem to be handmade and give a touch of wellness. To finish a nice lamp on the floor in industrial style. One of the first creator of this style is Paola Navone. The ones who don’t want to make strong changes immediately and don’t want to have a wallpaper with Beton patterns can just choose wall painted in grey and use letters made of zinc and stone sculptures. Very important in this trend is the quality of the materials because they can transform this style in something that has no time and is very elegant.
Dream furniture doesn’t mean furniture that makes us sick or our houses too heavy, dream furniture means leaving space to dreams. A good example is the new hotel in Paris called Stella Cadente. (www.hoteloriginalparis.com)
